This week in Reading, we will continue to focus on the comprehension strategy of finding the main idea and begin to focus on the comprehension strategy of summarising.
Students will continue to build their reading fluency by reading and talking about a range of different texts. They are working towards becoming confident readers and reflective thinkers who can express their ideas clearly and convincingly.
In our Storybook lessons, we will explore a text called Zoo by Anthony Browne.
This week students will revisit persuasive writing. Students will focus on the structure of a persuasive text by stating their opinion, articulating three reasons to support their opinion, and use connectives to organise their reasons.
Students will also have an opportunity for free choice writing.
In Maths this week, students will use multiplication strategies (skip counting, repeated addition and multiplication number sentences) to solve equations.
Students will also continue to explore location, by learning to give directions to move around a map.
In Spelling this week, we will focus on:
reading and spelling words that are joined together to make a contraction
We will be focusing on the tricky words: though, can't, don't
At home, you can support your child by doing the following activities:
Child writes the word, saying each sound as he/she writes.
Draw child’s attention to the target phonic pattern.
Help child choose the correct spelling pattern if there are options.

Child writes the word several times, saying each letter name as he/she writes.
Child writes a sentence using the target word.
In Grammar this week, students will explore coordinating conjunctions and subordinate conjunctions.
