STATEMENT OF INTENT- TERM 3 WEEK 2

READING: (Fluency and Comprehension)

This week in Reading, we are focussing on the comprehension strategy inferring. Students infer what they have read by looking for clues in the text and use what they already know from past experiences. We will explore various texts to practise this skill.

Students will continue to build their reading fluency by reading and talking about a range of different texts. They are working towards becoming confident readers and reflective thinkers who can express their ideas clearly and convincingly.

In our Storybook lessons, we will continue to explore the text called Under the Southern Cross by Frane Lessac.

WRITING: (Procedural)

This week students will continue to explore the features of procedural writing and experiment with creating their own procedural texts!

Students will also have an opportunity for free choice writing.

MATHS: (Repeated addition/multiplication, and Location)

In Maths this week, students will continue to explore multiplication, and develop strategies to recall and understand multiplication facts. We will be focusing on x2 facts and x10 facts, and also the concept of doubling.

Students will also begin to explore location, and will begin to learn to create and interpret maps of familiar places.

SPELLING and GRAMMAR

In Spelling this week, we will focus on:

reading and spelling words with the letter 'c' making the sound /s/
reading and spelling words with the letter 'g' making the sound /j/

We will be focusing on the tricky words: remember, other, another

At home, you can support your child by doing the following activities:

Child writes the word, saying each sound as he/she writes.
Draw child’s attention to the target phonic pattern.
Help child choose the correct spelling pattern if there are options.

At home, you can support your child by doing the following activities:

Child writes the word several times, saying each letter name as he/she writes.
Child writes a sentence using the target word.

In Grammar this week, students will continue to learn about prepositions, and how to use these with noun groups.

** Differentiated learning will be present in each class to cater for all students individual learning requirements.

Wellbeing

This week we will be revisiting Friendology!

In this lesson:

Students will identify that a Friendship Fire® is like hurt feelings, misunderstandings, and disagreements

Students will apply the steps of talking-it-out with a friend through role-plays

Students will recognize they can only control themselves

Students will demonstrate how to put out a Friendship Fire®, sharing the strategies with their class.
