PRC Author Interviews
Year 7 & 8 students have an explicit lesson on using the Oliver library management system to find PRC books in the Tumut High School Resource Centre collection. Students identify genres and books that are of interest, navigate the PRC website and begin the online reading log.
Year 7 students will be strongly encouraged to undertake the challenge and will be advised of their previous level of completion of the PRC in Primary School. The emphasis is on working towards the challenge, encouraging reading for pleasure, and aspiring to complete the challenge. For those who are not confident or regular readers, it is an opportunity to improve.
Year 7 & 8 students will be reading for pleasure in English classes. They have the opportunity to borrow or renew their borrowings from the THS collection every fortnight during lessons in the Resource Centre.
Year 9 students who register their interest will be supported to complete the challenge also.
The Premier’s Reading Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for enjoyment and enrichment in students and enable them to experience quality literature.
It is not a competition but a challenge to each student - to read, to read more, and to read more widely.
Research has found that when children read regularly there are many benefits, including becoming better writers, more empathetic, knowledgeable, and calm with improved focus and concentration.
