The Tumut High School Resource Centre staff are caring and committed to supporting whole school teaching and learning, literacy, and wellbeing.
Through promotion and equitable provision of resources, services, and spaces (physical and digital) we strive to cater to the specific, yet diverse and changing needs of our learning community.
Support reading for pleasure and literacy progression as the basis for educational and future success.
Develop, promote and provide equitable access to resources and services both physical and digital to support teaching programs.
Encourage the use of our Resource Centre spaces for collaborative, dynamic, and meaningful learning experiences.
Foster wellbeing through creating a safe and inclusive environment where reading for pleasure and respectful interactions are encouraged. We strive to make students feel welcome.
Align our operations with the school's values and strategic improvement plan.
Our vision is to develop critical and creative information users to empower them to be respectful, responsible, safe, and informed future-ready citizens.
The Resource Centre is integral to improving student outcomes through our emphasis on collaboration, meaningful learning experiences, future-focused skills, and whole-child development.
What we want to do: (Key actions to build on current practice)
Information literacy development prioritised: Guidance and scaffolds for critically and creatively using information, especially in digital environments, are embedded across curriculum areas.
Innovation encouraged: Library as venue and playground for innovative teaching practice and student-driven learning experiences, such as inquiry-based learning.
Collaboration enabled: The teacher-librarian is recognised as a willing facilitator and collaborator who contributes to planning, teaching, and assessing.
Information Communications Technology (ICT) skills supported: Provide equitable access to technology and co-develop supports and guides to facilitate ICT skill development.
Learning through literature valued: Promote using literature for pleasure and in curriculum programs, to develop literacy, knowledge, and personal and social capabilities, and to mitigate the effects of recreational digital media use.
Wellbeing and whole-child development valued: Every student has factors that enhance and limit their ability to learn. The school library continually improves resources, services, and spaces to support differentiation, equity, and continuity of learning.
Future-focused skills made visible: Link 21st-century skills as identified in the Australian Curriculum's General Capabilities to teaching and learning activities and explain their relevance to the learning community.
Community interactions fostered: Organise and support learning activities that contribute to student understanding of and respectful interaction with members of their local community and beyond.
