At the start of Term 1, Year 3 students looked at Podcasts during their Technology Time. The students started off by listening to a wide range of children's podcasts and discussing what they liked and what they didn't like.
At the start of Term 1, Year 3 students looked at Podcasts during their Technology Time. The students started off by listening to a wide range of children's podcasts and discussing what they liked and what they didn't like.
Here are some podcasts that the students listened to in class. It was great to hear their reflections on what appealed to them and what they didn't enjoy in a podcast. This reflective process assisted students when it came time for them to create their own podcasts.

In following lessons, students explored a broad range of children's podcasts and looked at podcasts with an interview style format. They were given the task of writing down five questions that they could ask someone in their class so that they could learn more about each other. Once this was complete, students worked in groups to record their interviews using GarageBand. They then edited their recordings and added music elements to make their podcast more interesting and engaging. Students were also able to upload their podcasts from GarageBand to SoundCloud, which is an audio platform.

Once the students had completed their podcasts, they completed a range of tasks using our school robotics sets. The first robot that they used was the Blue-Bot.

Blue-Bots are a newer version of the Bee-Bot floor robots that have been used in previous years. Blue-Bots can operate on their own or via Bluetooth controlled by an iPad. They are transparent so that the students can see all of the parts that make it work.

Students were asked to follow a set of challenges to program the Blue-Bot to move to different co-ordinates on a grid mat. Once they had completed the challenge cards, they were given the task to program the Blue-Bot to draw a circle. This task was a great challenge for the students and they worked together in their groups to test different algorithms until they discovered how to successfully draw a circle.
