In Term 3, Year 1 students explored Space and the Solar System. To further explore this topic during Technology Time, students completed a range of space related lessons. In the first lesson, students looked at several space themed Augmented Reality apps on the iPad. Augmented Reality (or AR) refers to software that integrates digital visual content into the user's real-world environment. The Space AR apps allowed the student's to see the planets moving around the classroom on the iPad. They were able to zoom in on each planet and learn different facts as they explored the solar system.
To learn more about the planets in the solar system, the students then navigated a website about planets and space that was created by Mrs Rilatt. In small groups, the students completed a research task where they wrote out facts about one of the planets.
Once the students had completed their research, they used these facts to make an informative video about their chosen planet. The students helped to set the iPad up on a tripod and then attached a lapel microphone to themselves. Students then stood in front of a green piece of material and recorded their videos about a planet in our solar system. Once the students had recorded their videos, they used the DoInk Green Screen app on the iPads to edit the video. They used the Chroma Key function to remove the green background from the video. They then searched the internet for an appropriate image of their chosen planet and then inserted this image into the background of their video. Some students were also able to add music and text elements to their video. The students did a remarkable job editing their Green Screen Videos.
