Term 4 Week 2

Tuesday 18 October 2022

From the Principal

I would like to start by thanking the Railway Town students, parents, staff and community for their messages of support and congratulations as I was appointed permanent Principal of Railway Town. I am excited to start this new adventure and look forward to leading this great school.

I also welcome Mr Weatherall to the Railway Town community. Mr Weatherall will teach 4-5 M this term and he is enjoying getting to know everyone. You can read more about Mr Weatherall in this newsletter.

The calendar for the term is quickly filling up and we will keep updating with reminders on the school Facebook page. Some notes have gone home already. If you do have a question, please contact the office or your child’s teacher on Dojo.

We are inviting all parents and carers to attend the P&C meeting tomorrow night. The P&C is a great way to work together to fundraise, ask questions and meet other families. The meeting will start at 7pm in the staffroom.

There has been a change of date to the last day of school this term. Students will now finish on Friday 16th December (Week 10) This is due to an additional Staff Development Day announced by the Department of Education last week.

Have a great week!

Congratulations to these students!

Timothy Wetherall, 31 from Tweed Heads. I have been teaching since 2015. I really enjoying playing basketball, spear fishing, cooking and teaching.

I am a big believer in building relationships and establishing a supportive and engaging learning environment with my students. Primary teaching is appealing to me as I am able to provide my students with a wide range of opportunities to engage with extra-curricular activities. These enable students to explore the many wonderful things we can do in life and also establish a strong start to education and all the possibilities that can come from the foundational skills learned in primary school.

I am married and have welcomed my first child into the world this year. My wife is also a primary school teacher named Jordan and our daughter's name is Rylan, who is 6 months old. My family and I are very excited to be here at Railway Town PS and are looking forward to meeting the wider community over the next term.

Wellbeing Day

Students who worked hard towards earning their Core Value wellbeing points at the end of term 3 enjoyed a Wellbeing session with a range of fun activities to choose from.

Well done for being consistently Respectful, a Team Player, Proud and Safe.

2023 SCHOOL TRAVEL APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN

Students who need a travel pass for 2023 can apply now:

https://transportnsw.info/school-travel-apply

A new application must be submitted to apply for the first time, or request an additional travel entitlement as a result of a new shared parental responsibility situation (e.g. joint custody).

Students who change address or school, have repeated a year or received an expiry notification from Transport for NSW should renew or update their details before the end of term 4:

https://transportnsw.info/.../update-school-travel-pass

This will ensure that schools can endorse applications, and entitlements remain valid for the start of the 2023 school year.

If a student's distance eligibility has changed based on their grade (i.e. grade two to grade three), the system will send an expiry notification via email.

Students living in rural and regional (R&R) areas should receive their travel pass at the start of the new school year from their nominated transport operator.  It may come via the school or be sent directly to them at home.  Note: some operators do not issue travel passes. Students/parents should confirm with their nominated operator if they do not receive a pass.
