Term 2 Week 6
Tuesday 31 May 2022
From the Principal
Welcome to Week 6
Yesterday we sent a link on Facebook and email asking our families to answer some quick questions. If you have 2 minutes to spare, these questions will assist us to plan for upcoming events this year. Please call us if you any problems getting the link. The link is also included in this edition of the newsletter.
We have several staff changes this week and the children are doing a great job at being flexible. If you send a message to your child's teacher on Dojo it may take longer to get a response as they might be away or on sick leave. Any urgent questions, please phone the office.
It is going to be a cold week, so we are encouraging children to wear coats with their school uniform to and from school. Our 3-6 classrooms have switched over to the new heating system and it is very warm. We are hoping K-2 will be finished very soon.

National Reconciliation Week 2022 - 27 May to 3 June
Students participated in a Reconciliation Walk on Friday to mark the start of Reconciliation Week.
The National Reconciliation Week 2022 theme, “Be Brave. Make Change.” is a challenge to all Australians— individuals, families, communities, organisations and government—to Be Brave and tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation so we can Make Change for the benefit of all Australians.
COVID-smart settings in Term 2
As the new term gets underway, we’d like to advise parents and carers about our COVID-smart settings in Term 2. These have been developed in consultation with NSW Health and are aligned to the NSW Government’s general community settings.
Many of our existing COVID-smart measures continue into Term 2, including:
rapid antigen testing for symptomatic students and staff
vaccinations – including booster shots (from 3 months after your child’s primary COVID-19 dose) are encouraged for all eligible students and their families.
ventilation
good hygiene practices
enhanced cleaning.
What's new in Term 2:
Change to close contact isolation requirements - The NSW Premier has announced changes to requirements for close contacts which means that from Week 1 of Term 2, students and staff who are identified as close contacts will be able to attend school with certain risk mitigations in place.
Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs) – which the department will continue to supply to students and staff in Term 2 to support symptomatic testing and testing of close contacts returning to school.
Masks – particularly a new recommendation from NSW Health for people who have recently recovered from COVID-19 to wear a mask for an additional 3 days following their 7-day isolation period (from days 8 to 10). [DELETE AS REQUIRED: Staff in SSPs and support classes are also required to wear masks to provide additional protection for our students].
Responding to local COVID-19 conditions – outlining the temporary reintroduction of some additional COVID-smart settings if local conditions require it
Ventilation – how we’re maximising natural ventilation in classrooms and learning spaces while balancing thermal comfort during the cooler months.
Reducing the risk of illness this winter – general advice from NSW Health to protect our school community as we head into winter.
Thank you again for your ongoing support.
Friday 6 May Railway Town participated in Jump Rope for Heart & raised $57.20 for the Charity. Great job everyone!
