Mathematics Advanced is a calculus-based course that explores new concepts and gives a greater depth to concepts learnt in Stage 5.
The course requires high levels of dedication and an achievement in outcomes at Stage 5.3. Students who have excelled at Stage 5.2 may be asked to consider mathematics as an option.
The Mathematics course is intended to give highly competent students an understanding of and competence in further aspects of mathematics which are applicable to further studies at tertiary level.
The HSC Mathematics course builds on the concepts introduced in the Preliminary Course, particularly in the aspects of calculus and geometry. The Mathematics Advanced Year 12 course is focused on enabling students to appreciate that mathematics is a unique and powerful way of viewing the world to investigate order, relation, pattern, uncertainty and generality.
Students wishing to undertake the HSC Mathematics course should have successfully completed Mathematics Advanced (Preliminary) at a high level.
