Economics is the study of choice. Students of economics examine how Australia and other countries make decisions on issues such as:
· What products and services will be produced?
· Who gets to access those products and services?
· Who will produce them and how?
Preliminary Economics focuses on the impact of choices made by individuals, businesses and governments.
This course builds upon the content of Year 11 Economics. The focus of enquiry moves from the study of individual choices and their consequences to those of nations and other entities that impact upon the global economy. Students consider the impacts of globalisation and Australia’s place in the global economy.
The course covers:
Introduction to Economics – the nature of economics and the operation of an economy
Consumers and Business – the role of consumers and business in the economy
Markets – the role of markets, demand, supply and competition
Labour Markets – the workforce and role of labour in the economy
Financial Markets – the financial market in Australia including the share market
Government in the Economy – the role of government in the Australian economy.
The course covers:
The Global Economy – Features of the global economy and globalisation
Australia's Place in the Global Economy – Australia's trade and finance
Economic Issues – issues including growth, unemployment, inflation, wealth and management.
Economic Policies and Management – the range of policies to manage the economy.
Prerequisites: Must have successfully completed Year 11 Economics.
Coursework
Complete all set tasks including note making, completing set reading, participation in group work and analysis of case studies. Organise and complete notes and revision summaries, use evidence and complete economics research and analysis. Use and complete practise past papers, structured answers and essays.
