Artist statement

Art is another way to communicate and express your feelings on society and the world we live in. This is a cultural artwork from a frame point of view. My work incorporates text extracts from the Quran that mean a lot to me. The selected text inspires me and defines how I live my life on a daily bases. The material practice of my work is acrylic paint and I used a sponging technique for the background and dry brushed white paint around each letter that has been hand painted using silver and black.

My main influence is the artist Ibrahim El-Salahi. He is a Sudanese painter, former public servant and diplomat. He is one of the foremost visual artists of the Khartoum School of African Modernism and the Hurufiyya art movement, which sought to combine traditional forms of Islamic calligraphy with contemporary artworks.
