Artist statement

This artwork is a structural frame work that explores colour, line, patterns, intense detail and symbols. I have expressed these concepts in my body of work, focusing on the intricate detail of the pictures to present the audience with images one could visually explore many times and each time find some detail they have missed. As I started to become interested in carving, I explored many different processes of printmaking but selected lino, as it allows for very bold and clear prints and the surface allows for fine line work. This artwork is a collection of prints consisting of nine different images that are sketched on lino plates and printed on different backgrounds that have been hand coloured using watercolour. The selected colours for each of the nine prints is different and blends up to three colours to give each print its own feel.

My work has been influenced by Margret Preston, an Australian Print artist. Her material and stylistic approach to depicting nature and objects in a structural manner and her use of hand colouring her prints has helped me develop my own artmaking practice.
