Artist Statement

My body of work is a collection of works consisting of a sculpture of a dragonfly, a drawing of a dragonfly and lino print again a dragonfly. My work is structural from a frame perspective as it focuses on the use of materials as well as line, shape, form, size and texture. The concept of my work is about nature.

The sculpture is about layering different materials from the fine wire frame to the translucent rice paper covering of the wings to create a rich and textured interpretation of the dragonfly. Other materials used include wood for the body, golf balls for the eyes, newspaper for the body, thick plush material and wool for the texture. The colour has been added using acrylic paint and a varnish mixed with mineral turpentine and shellac.
