Artist statement

My work is a very structural artwork from a frame perspective. The work is all about soft colour and pattern added to a very angelic image. The work is a painting that has been created by painting a basic base colour and layering tone with a dry brush technique and adding silver and gold to outline the peacock to give a rich feel.

My concept is the beauty of nature as seen in the beauty of the peacock and the flowers growing from the vine. My artwork gives a type of forest, jungle feel with the references to nature. The lanterns add an Arabian style to the artwork. This is a reference to my background. In the artwork the towers that are on each side of the peacock are minarets from the Taj Mahal. These references give the work a cultural feel.

My main influence is Josephine Wall because she creates artworks that are focused on the combination of nature and fantasy. She has influenced my practice with material ideas related to the use of colour and structural layout of references to nature including the flowers and vines.
