Matraville Sports High School is located in Chifley in eastern Sydney on traditional Gadigal land.
Bees
Students from Matraville Sports High School used a bee as inspiration for their artwork. They collectively decided to create Bees to support the showcase's theme of 'Ours to Share' as the students thought that bees move around a lot, pollinate plants and share their honey with us all – a theme that can be continued by sharing and gifting the honey to others.
In essence, the students were all in agreement that we are fortunate to have bees in our lives as they are very giving and sharing insects and are essential players in sustainability. Textas and coloured pencils were their medium.

'I spent a lot of time looking at bees to learn about them. I wanted to show all of their colours and body parts. I learnt that bees are really important for our future and we can't live without them ... Bees share with us a lot more than we realise ... I really like bees.' – Lamarr (Year 9 student)
'I tried to get as much detail as I could in the bee drawing. I didn't realise that bees had so much going on with all of their colours and design. I am really proud of my drawing. From far away, our bees look very realistic. Bees are so tiny, but they are always sharing with us. It was a really fun project!' – Tyirell (Year 9 student)
'The students did an amazing job and were engaged throughout the whole creative process. The bee artworks were very detailed and relevant to current sustainable/environmental issues. The bees are so realistic!' – Toni (teacher)
