Maravillas Lamberto Yoldi was a teenager who was raped and killed as well as her father Vicente Lamberto for being republicans during the Spanish Civil War. She was born on June 28th 1922, in Navarre and died at the short age of 14 on August 15th, 1936.
All started on an August night, right after the coup d’ètat lead by Franco on the 18th of july in 1936. The falangists knocked the door of her house and asked for her father, because he was a farmer affiliated with UGT (Unión General de los Trabajadores, a spanish labor union close to the Spanish Socialist Workers Party). Maravillas knew what happened with the people who were punished for being republicans, so Maravillas asked to go with her father when he was arrested. They took them to the town hall where Vicente Lamberto, her father, was held prisoner while Maravillas was being taken to the office and there they molested and raped her. Later, on that night, Maravillas and Vicente were taken to the Ibiricu, 40 km away from Larraga and Maravillas was raped again in front of her father. Vicente was shot as well as Maravillas. Dogs were thrown at Maravillas to eat her mortal remains. Her father was launched in a ditch. Meanwhile, her mother was arrested and all the family’s goods were confiscated. Her mother, Paulina Yoldi, and two younger sisters were condemned to poverty.
Josefina Lamberto, Maravillas’ younger sister who was 7 years old when the crime happened, was during all her life an activist for the recovery of historical memory to remember her sister and make known what was done to her and her father.
After her story was known throughout Pamplona, the city hall named a square after her. In 2009 Fermin Balentzia made a song called “Maravillas” in her honor.
