“Gamification means to enrich the journey of a person instead of waiting at the finish line to reward them.” - Roman Rackwitz
Your behaviour is determined by three factors:
Motivation
Ability
Trigger
Our brains seek rewards, novelty, purpose, and connection due to chemicals such as dopamine and endorphins. Games hack your brain and can satisfy what your brain desires!
Create a goal with purpose.
Break it into manageable steps.
Schedule these steps.

Track your progress using a spreadsheet or diary
Create an environment that motivates you, like having your running gear beside your bed or visualising your goal by drawing euphemistic representations of your goal such as a mountain, where the peak is your final goal
Find a goal buddy to help motivate you
Create fun competitions between friends, eg. send a photo or your progress in a group chat every day like the sky on your run
Reward yourself when you have achieved a step with pleasure or placing a badge in your tracking progress
Fitbit and Duolingo can motivate a person to participate in fitness and learning a language as they are fun, track your progress, award you with badges, allow you to share your progress, creates a challenge, adds a theme to the activity and can make you more connected with others
One that we recommend is the Forest app - which will allow you to also support the planting of real trees!
