Basic information to be prepared for your classes.
A full unit (1 semester) - you must complete 70% of assessment and have 90% engagement/participation
A 0.5 unit (+/- 1 term) - You may either want to change classes midway through the semester and still be awarded a 0.5 unit, or you may get a 0.5 unit if you haven't attended enough for a 1.0 unit
You may receive a Registered Unit (called an R-unit) if you don't meet the requirements of the unit (assessment & engagement/participation)
Failure to attend or to submit sufficient assessment ( ≥ 70%) in will give you no units towards your Year 12 certificate and a V (Void) grade.
You will be issued a Unit Outline through Google Classroom.
A Unit Outline contains your future assessments (including tests), due dates and an in-depth description of the expected class content.
It also contains information about the assessment policy (including appeals and late penalties) and the course's grade descriptors. Grade descriptors are what teachers refer to at the end of semester when they are issuing grades.
To the right is an example of a Unit Outline from English T Unit 1 (from 2020)
A helpful way to see all your assessments for the current semester is by clicking on the button below.
An overdue assessment will lose 5% per day including weekends.
If you miss the sitting of an exam, you will also incur a 5% per day penalty.
Talk to your Year Coordinator in Student Services if you need an extension. If your circumstances are long term, you may need to apply for 'Special Provisions' (formerly known as 'Special Consideration'). Check out the 'Student Services' page for more detailed information.
Email your teacher if you unexpectedly cannot attend an exam, but make sure you also grab some documentation (e.g. Medical Certificate) to mitigate penalties.
You will receive a weekly email from Student Services with a summary of your absences for the semester so every Monday.
Checking your email weekly for this absences email is recommended to stay up to date and be able to finish the unit.
If your teacher made an error, make sure you raise it with them as soon as possible. They will easily look into the matter.
If you need to explain your absences, review the information on 'Student Services' page. This will explain that process.
