We improvise everyday as we go about our lives, but what does it mean to improvise in music and what are the benefits? Using our voice, movement, percussion and other sound sources, join us as we explore accessible entry points into musical improvisation as a basis for self-expression, creativity, communication, connection and simple composition in the primary classroom. Open to anyone with any level of musical experience. Simply bring your curiosity and willingness to play and try things out!
Michael Sollis is Musica Viva’s Artistic Director, Education, an inaugural position which he took up in early 2016 and to which he brings a vast amount of experience as a composer, educator, artistic director and performer. His aim is to ignite the creative potential of the next generation of Australians through the unique experience of live ensemble music, through the Musica Viva In Schools program. Michael combines his wealth of experience as a practising musician and highly sought after composer with solid work as an educator, having taught at various levels from early childhood music to tertiary composition.
