'The body reflects the attitudes of the mind. Improve the function of the body and you must improve the state of mind…What I’m after isn’t flexible bodies but flexible brains. What I’m after is to restore each person to their human dignity.'
Moshe Feldenkrais
The Feldenkrais Method® (pronounced Fel-den-krais, rhymes with ‘rice’) is a universal method for improving human life through better movement, sensation, posture and breathing. From early childhood to advanced age, thousands of Australians are using Feldenkrais every day to address their problems and to reach their fullest potential.
In this workshop we will be doing several Awareness Through Movement Feldenkrais lessons. Through these lessons we can improve body awareness and performance, calm the nervous system and enhance the mind-body integration. Everything we do in life involves sensations and movement. By using attention, perception and imagination, we’ll explore novel movement pathways to become aware of our habits and adopt new patterns which broaden our use of movement in daily life. These can be applied to our own use as well as to students you teach. The lessons will be sitting and lying on the floor, no physical fitness is required, just an inquiring mind. Wear comfortable clothing.
Cassandra Morrow is a Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner practicing in Canberra since 2001. She first came to the Feldenkrais Method in the 1980's. Her interest was sparked by its use in recovery from injury, as well as the huge potential in its application for each of us in everyday movement. She works with children through to those in their 80’s offering group classes and specific workshops in a variety of workplaces, as well as conducting individual appointments. The Feldenkrais philosophy and working with people in this Method continues to inspire her in ongoing professional education.
