A practical workshop addressing the issues and complexities surrounding indigenous identity and cultural knowledge, while exploring their vibrant and diverse art and culture.
The content and practical making activities in this workshop are based around traditional motifs, blended with a contemporary interpretation, whilst incorporating language and stories related to nature and animals.
Bessie Nunes has been an Art teacher in the ACT for the past 15 years and a practicing artist for as long as she can remember. Bessie runs an Indigenous Art program where she currently works at Canberra High School with the aim to build a strong sense of identity and culture with the students she works with. Come and learn about how to implement Indigenous perspectives though Visual Art into your own classroom and practice.
