Global Politics is a group 3 subject.
We do not teach the subject at the school but have occasionally had students who are interested in politics and want to do an essay in it
Since we do not teach global politics, the supervisor you have will not be a specialist in it but the syllabus is quite accessible to most teachers and any teacher who teaches TOK or has an interest will be able to advise on the essay. We have links with the global politics teacher at LGB and can consult her to check research question
General Tips
As with any EE subject, your research question needs to get the balance right between being broad enough that there is enough to talk about in 4000 words but specific enough that the essay is focussed
Whatever you are doing it has to be a contemporary issue in global politics, this means that it must have occurred within your lifetime
Since global politics changes on a daily and (sometimes) hourly basis your essay may not be up to date by the time you finish on it - this is fine. Just make it clear on your essay the timeframe that the essay is covering
A comparative approach is likely to be successful . For example comparing covid 19 education outcomes in Malaysia and Bangladesh
Any essay in global politics should look to examine power structures. Power could mean lots of things, it could mean balance of power between genders, it could mean diplomatic soft power (co-opting nations) or soft power (coercing nations through weapons and money etc)
The global politics syllabus has the following sections
Understanding power and global politics
Rights
Development and sustainability
Peace and Conflict
Borders
Environment
Equality
Health
Identity
Poverty
Security
Technology
