Methanex Donations At Work
TECs (Trainees Earning Credentials) have been working with Ms. Westbrook for the last couple weeks on a variety of skills where the Methanex Donation has been utilized. They have been discussing AWG wire size, conductors and insulators and the pallet with all the various wire and cable pieces turned an ordinary lecture into an amazing hands-on experience. The students get so much more out of their training when they can engage with materials and equipment. All the conduit, piping and valves will be part of next month’s TEC Rack Projects where students design, develop and build with the materials on the rack. Their rack is now full thanks to the generous donation.
Ms. Westbrook and her students have handed out carts loaded with the donated PPE to almost all our course instructors in CTEC's industrial classes including carpentry, electrical, HVAC and automotive. The hard hats, gloves and vests will be used regularly. Our medical students really appreciated the masks and latex gloves and even our culinary classes got in on the PPE with food safe gloves as well. The IT class has had a huge impact with the Microsoft Surface Hub donation. To begin, the setup and research of that type of technology has boosted the interest in the course and the curiosity of the students that come for field trips here is through the roof. The IT class even added a group discussion to their lecture on community involvement in their training and the donations that can take a lecture to the next level.
The picnic tables are being “eye-spied” by Ms. Westbrook's classes to be used as an outdoor classroom area. But the most fun the students have had is figuring out the configurations to set up the tents. It's like a big puzzle laid out across our Shop Yard. It is really great watching the students use problem-solving skills and trial and error to figure out how to assemble them.
Thank you so much for your donation!

Students not following CTEC guidelines will be disciplined according to the EBR Parish Rights and Responsibilities Handbook.

CTEC Application Portal for 24-25 is OPEN!
CTEC is a specialized program for high school students in the Capital region. Students get hands-on training in a small group environment by instructors who are credentialed and have worked in their craft area.
Students from our high schools can apply to attend CTEC for ½ day progamming that allows them to take specialized courses, many of which are dual enrollment courses with BRCC.
By still attending their home school, students have the flexibility of a specialized college type experience but also access to high school courses, extracurricular activities, and other high school experiences.
Considerations for Acceptance:
A- ATTENDANCE, good attendance record
B- BEHAVIOR, history of positive behavior
C- CREDENTIALS, you must be ready to earn Credentials
D- DUAL ENROLLMENT, ready to earn dual enrollment if applicable
E- EFFORT, history of putting forth effort (no failing grades)
10th-12th grade students must commit to a minimum of 2 years at CTEC.
Students should have a desire to learn a craft, earn an Industry-Based Credential, and possible dual enrollment credits!
*Medical programs are open for 11th and 12th grade only.
