WHAT IS A

MEDICAL ASSISTANT &

PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN

Medical assistants are trained to perform both administrative and clinical tasks in medical settings. Their administrative duties may include tasks such as scheduling appointments, managing patient records, and billing and coding for insurance purposes. Clinical tasks may include taking vital signs, performing routine lab tests, and assisting with medical procedures.

Patient care technicians, on the other hand, focus primarily on direct patient care. They may assist with activities of daily living, such as bathing and feeding, and help patients with mobility and transfers. Patient care technicians may also assist with taking vital signs, performing basic medical procedures, and monitoring patients for changes in their condition.

SALARY RANGE:  $15.00-$25.00 Per Hour

CREDENTIALS EARNED

Certified Medical Assistant

A Medical Assistant curriculum at a career and technical school typically includes courses in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, clinical procedures, pharmacology, medical office management, and patient care. 

Patient Care Technician

A Patient Care Technician curriculum at a career and technical school typically includes courses in basic patient care skills, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, infection control, EKG monitoring, phlebotomy, and nursing assistant training. 

CPR Certification

The CPR certification trains students on how to perform CPR correctly, as well as other life-saving techniques.
