The 19th EATS annual conference will convene at the Cyprus Campus of the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) at Larnaca. UCLan builds on strong academic foundations, with more than 190 years of history, and is considered among the top 6.8% of universities worldwide by the Centre for World University Rankings (CWUR) 2021/22. UCLan Cyprus operates under the academic umbrella of UCLan UK, and further to the political changes following the United Kingdom’s exit from the European Union (BREXIT), it is considered a unique University, bridging the UK and Europe in terms of research, academic standards, student experience and student exchange. A fully licensed University in Cyprus, a unique and innovative model of a Cypriot and British University Educational Experience, it is accredited by the UK Quality Assurance Agency and the Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education.

Conference organiser

The conference is organised by the Northern Institute of Taiwan Studies (NorITS) and Institute of the Study of the Asia Pacific (ISAP), two institutions at the University of Central Lancashire.

NorITS is an interdisciplinary hub of teaching, research, public policy and cultural activities. Its main aim is to further the development of the academic study of Taiwan and to take part in social and cultural exchanges between Britain and Taiwan. Its team members approach Taiwan from different disciplinary angles, including history, anthropology, gender studies, migration studies, cultural studies, environment studies, literature and international relations.

ISAP is an umbrella institute that incorporates a number of research institutes and centres focusing on Asia Pacific studies. These include: The International Institute of Korean Studies (IKSU), the Northern Institute of Taiwan Studies (NorITS), the Northern England Policy Centre for the Asia Pacific (NEPCAP), and the Centre of Austronesian Studies (COAST). It aims to provide high standards of interdisciplinary research, teaching and innovation, to create a distinctive and interactive learning environment for students at UCLan and to contribute to wider discussions on relevant themes and issues within the Asia Pacific Region.
