TFD Panel: Is there authoritarian allure in democratic Asia?

This is the panel funded, proposed and organised by Taiwan Foundation for Democracy. Addressing the theme 'Is there authoritarian allure in democratic Asia?', four scholars will focus on the following issues in their presentations:

• Why have political leadership’s approval ratings in Democratic East Asia been so low?
• How tempting is the authoritarian developmental state to the public in Southeast Asian developing nations?
• East Asian democracy in the eyes of selected mainland Chinese
• Democracy and Its Authoritarian Alternative in South Asia
