First Circular - 12th Annual Conference

Wednesday 8th April – Friday 10th 2015 at Jagiellonian University, Kraków, Poland

The 12th EATS Conference is hosted by the Jagiellonian University, located at Gołębia Str 24. Main University building – Collegium Novum (New College) will be one of the conference venues.

The conference begins with a Taiwan Studies Book Fair at 11.30 am, followed by registration at noon of Wednesday 8 April; it completes at 2.00pm of Friday 10 April. A city centre guided walk is planned for Friday afternoon and optional tours (visit to Auschwitz and/or to Wieliczka Salt mines) are arranged on Saturday 11 April.

Submission

Please submit your paper as a PDF or Word document by 25 March online via the EATS website. Please also send a copy to info@eats-taiwan.eu (subject: submission of SURNAME, given name). Late submission will affect the chances of obtaining travel grants and free hotel accommodation. Papers should not exceed the length of 7,000 words. We would be grateful if you do not change the title and abstract. MA presenters do not need to submit full papers

Presentation

Each panel has an allocated time period of 90 minutes for three to five presentations. Distribution of time is as follows:

  • 3-paper panel
  • 20-min presentation
  • 20-min comment
  • 10-min Q&A
  • 4-paper panel
  • 15-min presentation
  • 20-min discussant’s comment
  • 10-min Q&A
  • 5-paper panel (MA Panel)
  • 10-min presentation
  • 8-min Q&A per paper

Young Scholars Award

All the candidates who have applied for the YSA and were successfully accepted as panellists please submit the full paper between 7,000-9,000 words by 8 March (see above for submitting methods).

Accommodation

You are provided with free accommodation at the one of the University Guesthouses for the two nights of 8 and 9 April 2015 in a standard room. Those who are willing to share a room (students preferred) will be offered three nights free of charge. If you travel with a companion, you will need to pay the rate for one night for your companion. If you check in before 8 April and/or check out later than 10 April, you will need to pay the rate for the extra nights, which is set at €47 for standard room and €32 for double (if shared) . If you need to pay extra night(s), may we suggest you pay EATS membership, registration, and extra night(s) IN ONE COMBINED payment either by international EU bank transfer or by Paypal (see below for details of registration fee and payment method).

Hotel cancellation policy: we are obliged to inform that if you have confirmed your attendance with EATS and booked accommodation but cancelled last minute without reason, you will have to pay for the cost of your booking and we will not refund the cost for the extra nights paid.

To avoid confusion, please make sure the spelling of your name is given exactly as it is printed on your passport .

Conference Dinner

You are invited to attend the conference dinner funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China and hosted by the Taipei Cultural and Economic Office in Poland (Biuro Gospodarcze i Kulturalne Tajpej), the de facto embassy of Taiwan . The Taiwanese ambassador, Mr. Kuochiang Chiang, will deliver a welcome address to all conference delegates. The conference dinner is also the occasion where EATS celebrate the publication of your book monograph. Travel Grant

PhD and MA students based at a European university are entitled to a travel grant up to €150 (one travel grant per paper). To claim your travel grant, please fill in the travel grant form that will be given out during registration and post with your ticket or e-ticket after the conference to:
