Discipline Code
Code of Conduct
Our schools can better ensure disruption-free learning environments by employing preventative and proactive approaches to student misbehavior. As classroom managers, teachers will establish classroom rules and make decisions concerning appropriate discipline of students in class. Additionally, all secondary school staff members have a responsibility to enforce school rules in common areas such as the halls, lavatories, cafeteria, etc. The administration will work with teachers, parents, guardians, and students to help students understand and comply with school rules. Parent and guardian support and cooperation is important in that it helps students to see adults as working partners in this process. For the protection and safety of all students, please know that video and audio recording devices may be utilized on school buses. Behavior and communication of students, while riding school buses, may be used for purposes of student discipline under provisions of the District’s Bus Transportation Policy, Student Discipline Code, and the Public School Code. The following list has been compiled to provide parents/guardians and students with examples of inappropriate school conduct and possible disciplinary options. This list is not all-inclusive. Please be advised that certain offenses require disciplinary action according to district policy and state law.
Safety and Security: In an effort to keep all of our students safe and healthy, we have school wide expectations and we are asking for families to help us reinforce and support our efforts through conversations at home with your students.
Vape Detectors- We have vape detectors in most of our bathrooms. Students who are found to be in the bathrooms when the detectors go off will be quickly searched by administration. Students are not touched during a search. They are asked to empty their pockets and the administrator will empty and go through backpacks but the student is never touched.
Electronic Device Expectations- Students must store their electronic devices in pouches or hanging caddies for the duration of their instructional time (class time). Cell phones are also not permitted in the bathrooms for safety and security reasons.
Hall Pass Expectations- Students must have a pass in order to leave their assigned location. Students must remain in their color coded areas to use the bathrooms or to get a drink of water. No students should be walking the halls without permission.
Behavior at School Events- The EPSD encourages all who attend an after school event to be positive, encourage those competing by cheering or performing, and respect others in attendance. All students attending after school events are expected to demonstrate positive behaviors without causing harm, danger, or embarrassment to other attendees. All EPSD school rules and the code of conduct remain in effect during all after school events. Students attending EPSD after school events must demonstrate respect toward fellow students, players, opponents, coaches, and other fans in attendance.
