The IBDP students took a trip to the Lohagad fort, where, to reach the fort they climbed the mountain to its peak which is where the fort was located. A good form of self-motivation and challenge for them to complete their trek was that the purpose of the trek wasn’t only to reach the fort but also to fulfill the activity aspect of CAS. They showed high levels of energy and enthusiasm, were continuously pumped up throughout the trek, and engaged positively with nature. The trip started and ended with memorable bus rides, with students dancing and singing throughout the journey.
The mountain hiking experience seemed both challenging and at the same time rewarding for the students. They embarked on this journey that tested their physical endurance and mental resilience. They faced some tough challenges along the way, navigating steep slopes and rough terrain, and despite the countless difficulties, they persevered and pushed themselves to keep going. Throughout the hike, they picked up some valuable lessons. They learned the importance of preparation, using proper gear, and staying hydrated during long treks. They also realized the significance of pacing themselves and not overexerting so they could endure the long journey ahead. They gained a newfound appreciation for nature's beauty, witnessed breathtaking landscapes, and encountered different animals along the trail. They enjoyed the peacefulness of nature, embraced the stunning views and wildlife around them.
During their time on the trails, they engaged in simple activities such as visiting a temple on top of the mountain, climbing more than 100 steps of the Lohagad fort, and learning the history of the fort. These activities offered each of them unique insights and experiences. Visiting the temple provided them with a moment of spiritual reflection and they learned about the significance of the temple to the local area. Climbing the steps of the Lohagad fort presented them with a physical challenge and taught them the value of determination and that it only takes effort and persistence to achieve your goals. Learning the history of the fort provided them with a deeper understanding of the region they were exploring. It taught them the importance of honoring the cultural and historical context of the places they visited. These activities enriched their mountain hiking experience by providing them with opportunities for personal growth and cultural exploration. They gained a deeper appreciation for the beauty and diversity of the environment around them.
During the trip to Lohagad Fort, the students demonstrated several key learning outcomes. First being commitment and perseverance as they tackled the physical challenges of the trek. They engaged in collaboration and teamwork by supporting each other throughout the hike. The experience also fostered self-awareness through their reflections on nature and history.
