The students from IBDP Year 1 and IBDP Year 2 decided to perform for the teachers in our school as a token of love on the occasion of Teachers’ Day. Our dance performances were not only a routine but also a gesture of appreciation for their tireless dedication to helping shape the lives of their students. The happiness on their faces followed by the loud and heavy applause justified the fact that dance is a very exciting form of expression. Beyond the multiple performances, the involvement of all the students in organizing the Teachers’ Day Event helped them learn about teamwork, dedication as well as consistency.Learning these skills helped all the students to realize the collective effort required to create and execute such a memorable performance.
From gathering everyone together to meet up at a particular place and time for practicing the dance routine, to making sure everyone was learning the steps well, the coordination was done well and most importantly, we also had to make sure that everyone was patient enough to appreciate the value of consistency and practice. Some of the songs we danced to included Kajra Re, Gori Gori, Nagada Nagada, and many more. This Bollywood mashup was thoroughly enjoyed by all the teachers and the room was filled with happiness and excitement. With feet tapping and hands clapping, the dance performances brought in loads of joy and love in the room! This journey has helped all the IBDP students to experiment with different dance styles, and music and hence, be able to express themselves through an art form. Moreover, we were all able to learn about time management skills such as balancing academics and at the same time, being committed to the rehearsals and being on time for the dance practice. Engaging with the students and contributing to celebrate Teachers Day together taught all of us the importance of service towards others in fostering unity and appreciation.
All in all, performing for our teachers was a heartfelt expression of gratitude. Through creativity that rose while deciding the steps in the dance routine and the physical dedication it required to help us all give our best, this experience has left an unexceptional mark on all of us and developed our understanding of the arts and the capability to inspire and bring people together to allow us to create unforgettable memories for all.
Through this experience, we demonstrated several IB learning outcomes. For instance, we developed new skills by exploring different dance styles and coordinating a large group of students. We also demonstrated perseverance and commitment by balancing our academic responsibilities with the dedication required for rehearsals and performance preparation.
Testimony
"The Teacher's Day event wasn't just about showcasing our love for dance; it was about expressing my heartfelt appreciation for the dedication, patience, and guidance our teachers pour into us every single day. For me, volunteering for this dance was a way to say "thank you" in a language that transcends words. The experience itself was truly enriching.
We students were united by a common goal: to honor our teachers uniquely and unforgettably. The laughter, the dedication, the fun we poured into each practice session - it all added to the magic of the performance. Thank you, teachers, for everything you do. And thank you to all the students for making the journey so special. "
