Mosaics are one of the oldest art forms on the planet, typically made of pieces of colored glass, stone, or metal arranged in patterns to create geometric shapes, patterns, and even images. Mosaics are an important part of art cultures around the world, from Ancient Greece and Rome to contemporary photomosaics composed using computers. In this activity, you will practice using the geometric concepts of similarity, congruence, and translation as you design a digital mosaic using Adobe Illustrator.
Make a list of situations or settings in which you have observed similar or congruent shapes being used, being as specific as possible.
Your list might include:
Logos for brands, companies, or places
Murals, paintings or other pieces of visual art
Examples from the natural world
Create a new document in Illustrator
Determine what you want your mosaic to look like. Is it going to be an image, or an abstract design.
Create a set of similar and congruent shapes that you will use in your design.
You will copy and paste these instead of creating the shape multiple times
