Create a new document in Illustrator - it can be any size!
Using the PEN TOOL (the one we can use to make our own shapes) you are going to block out shapes on your document to fill the page.
If you can't figure out the pen tool - use your shape tool to create a shape and the white arrows to make it fit where you want it to go.
Create a shape and click on a corner once with the shape tool -then again to adjust it.
Move one of your shapes off your artboard and cover it with another shape or design.
Use your black arrow to select the whole shape and with your pathfinder tool (window > Pathfinder) Divide your shape.
Switch to your white arrow and click away. Then, use your white arrow to remove anything outside of the shape.

Using my black arrow, I was able to move the shape back to where it belongs in my design.
