About the Dr. Mary Stauffer Foundation

Dr. Mary Stauffer created her foundation to give back to the community of Downey where she had a successful medical practice for over 40 years. She was an outstanding student in elementary school and graduated valedictorian of her high school, Bexley High, near Columbus Ohio. She went on to graduate top in her class at Capital University and Ohio State University, College of Medicine. Education has always been a priority for her, and at 102 years old, she is still interested in everything. The Foundation began in 1993 and currently awards three different scholarships to high school students: The Mary R. Stauffer Career College Scholarship, Scholar Athlete Award and the Junior 4.0 Award.

"It’s estimated that Dr. Stauffer has gifted more than $5 million through educational grants and scholarships in the last 25 years, though the actual total is likely higher. Her foundation – the Mary R. Stauffer Foundation – bestows $2,500 scholarships to 50 graduating seniors from Downey and Warren high schools each year, plus “monetary awards” worth at least $100 to approximately 800 students per year. This year, in 2021 alone, the Dr. Stauffer Foundation has gifted Downey High School $178,200 in grants and scholarships.
