Band/Colorguard/Mariachi Teacher
Class of 2021 Band & Colorguard Students:
I am proud to have been your band director during your time at Downey High School. We grew together as a program, as you all matured into strong and capable individuals. You persevered through the entirety of the COVID-19 pandemic and because of that, we were not able to experience a complete journey together. During the time that we did have in person together we blossomed into some of the premier performing ensembles in Southern California. The run of success that we have shared the past few years with Winter Guard, Field Band, Parade Band, Concert groups and Jazz groups has been in large part because of your dedication and effort to pursue our shared vision of achievement. Although we were unable to complete the 2020 Concert or Winter Guard season, or even have any type of season through this unconventional school year, I am extremely proud of all that we were able to achieve in the time that we had together. Although we have been distance and hybrid learning for over a year, this experience that we have endured together makes me feel that I will not forget the class of 2021: not just because of these circumstances, but because those of you that made it to the end showed true dedication and commitment to our program and supported the underclassmen. I feel that you all made your best effort to leave our program better than it was when you arrived. Thank you all for your effort and time that you have shared with me and your peers. I will miss you all.
Music Teacher & Jazz Director
To the Jazz Program Senior Class of 2021,
During this unprecedented challenging year, I am proud of all the seniors that stepped up and took charge of our awesome music program. A special thanks to Raymond Ortiz, who mastered the art of virtual recording and produced a few songs for our EPIC Jazz Choir. Also, to Ivan Cuevas, who was one of our pilon for both jazz band and jazz choir in all of his 4 years.
