SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers, and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. We help each student excel. A nonprofit national education association, SkillsUSA serves students preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service (including health) occupations.

SkillsUSA empowers its members to become world-class workers, leaders, and responsible American citizens. In addition, SkillsUSA improves the quality of our nation’s future skilled workforce. More than 372,000 students and advisors join SkillsUSA each year, organized within more than 19,000 local classrooms at 4,658 schools in 53 state and territorial associations. Including personal, workplace, and technical skills grounded in academics.

This year, to all the 2021 competitors, has been very different, challenging, complex but fun competing Virtually via Zoom.

Your Advisors and I cannot be prouder for all the challenges and obstacles you all came across, trying to promptly submit what was required for your competition, taking the test, and the website crashes as you were all ready to submit your test.

Attended your Virtual appointment promptly and professionally, especially since all your competitions were either on Saturday or Sunday.

We competed with 178 high schools in California entered 22 different contests, and we are sending 17 gold medalists to the National competition in June virtually. We were awarded with a Silver Medal in being a Chapter Excellence Program and Mr. Yamasaki is Region 3 Advisor of the year.

Congratulations to you all, Class of 2021. You will be very special in our hearts and in the history of Downey High Schools SkillsUSA Chapter for competing in the Pandemic and being winners.
