Service Learning/Volunteer Hours

What does it mean to volunteer?  Why would Drew require you volunteer for 100 hours during your high school career?  

Volunteering meant offering to do something willingly without expecting payment in return. It was all about helping others and making a positive impact on your community or a cause you cared about. Drew required its students to complete 100 volunteer hours during their high school careers because it was a good way to give back to the community and contribute time, skills, and energy to support various organizations or individuals in need. As part of my community service hours—and for fun—I served as the girls’ varsity basketball manager. This position allowed me to create bonds with different players, understand basketball better, and learn the terminology of the game. Although I could not play basketball myself, being a manager for the team was just as enjoyable. I also helped my brother with his nonprofit occasionally, assisting when he went out to feed and clothe the homeless. This picture below was taken on Saturday, May 11th, 2024.
