Here is my Malian Empire app. This project was a collaboration between Literature and Composition and Digital Technology. I read the story of Sundiata, the “Lion King,” and then researched the Mali Empire. I explored topics such as traditional Malian foods, popular tourist destinations, and Ancient Mali. I used this information to create an app on Code.org that compares Old Mali to modern-day Mali.

Here is my Sundiata graphic novel page. If you’ve read my previous posts, you know that Sundiata, also known as the “Lion King,” was the first king of the Mali Empire. For this assignment, we were asked to choose a section of the story Sundiata: An Epic of Old Mali and recreate it as a graphic novel page. My finished page is shown to the left.

IMG_5025.MOVIMG_1222.MOVIMG_1223.MOVThe element of art we focused on was space, shown by the distance between the rocket and the ground as it launched. Our design process began with researching how to build the rocket. Then, we gathered our materials and assembled them. We selected a cork and measured it to fit the bottle, used a funnel to pour vinegar into the bottle, and added straws for balance.
When we tested the rocket, it did not move much at first. We tried a second time, but it still stayed in the same place. One thing we could have improved was using a better-fitting cork to create a tighter seal.
The principles of design we used were movement and balance. This experiment relates to Newton’s Third Law, which states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. In this case, the action was the buildup of pressure inside the bottle, and the reaction was the rocket attempting to launch off the ground.

I created an Instagram account using the app on my phone and chose a username and password that related to the immersive experience. I incorporated the theme of water by including informative facts in my posts. I am most proud of staying consistent with documenting the progress of the immersive experience, from the beginning stages to the final result. One thing I would change is the effort I put into the page, I would put in more effort and post more content.

Write complete sentences in Spanish. Elaborate. Use prior knowledge connected with new knowledge. Use your best Spanish. Write from inside out these descriptions. If I find any evidence of any use of an exterior source I must invalidate your powerpoint.

Create a QR code for your video presentation. When describing and explaining your dream house, include all the parts, its interior and exterior views. Include as many details as possible, for example, furniture. Be neat. Be clear. Be creative. Create an attractive blueprint.
