For this grade-level project, my class and I explored a variety of global conflicts. We researched different aspects of each issue, such as what might have caused the conflict and what tools might have been used to amplify it. In the end, we reflected on what we could do to learn from these conflicts and grow as a society.

For this class, my group (Kamiyah, Dani, Johnathan) and I were asked to create a Guernica piece based on Pablo Picasso’s famous anti-war painting, highlighting a global conflict. We were also asked to include various cubist elements, a visual arts style invented by Picasso, in our piece. We chose to focus on gun violence.

The different classes contributed to how we answered the driving question. In science, we learned how to make pigments, explore different chemical bonds, and show how conflicts relate to each other. First, we researched and selected a topic, then we started sketching, and finally we put our work on the board and painted it.

I learned that gun violence caused so many deaths, and I did not find any part of the project particularly difficult. I liked the concept of the project, but I did not like how short the time frame was. I would not have done anything differently, and I would like to explore gun violence and suicide further in the future.
