Aladdin the Musical ( JA Performance)

Theater Tech Year Reflection:
This was my first year taking Theater Tech, and I loved every moment of it. In previous years, I would always watch the class and admire all of the behind-the-scenes work that went into each performance, from building sets to managing props and lighting. Joining the class this year felt like the perfect opportunity to finally experience that side of theater myself. I learned how much effort, teamwork, and planning went into making a performance run smoothly. Above are a couple of videos from the middle school play Aladdin that we worked on, which show some of the work I contributed to behind the scenes. Being part of the team gave me a new appreciation for all the technical work that makes a performance possible.

Working the Lights

Lighting Reflection:
In my final semester, I learned how to make and run lights for theater performances, which was a completely new experience for me. I learned how to set up the lighting, program cues, and control the lights during a performance to enhance the mood and focus the audience’s attention. During the EA performance, I ran the lights for the first time, which was both exciting and nerve-wracking. Although managing all the cues under pressure was stressful, I enjoyed the challenge and felt proud of my work. I realized how important lighting is for creating a professional and engaging performance. I believed that the skills I learned, including attention to detail, timing, and coordination, would be very valuable for future theater projects and other experiences that require technical precision.
