What is Peer Leadership?
Every year, a select few seniors are chosen to participate in this class, and I was fortunately one of them. The whole point of the class is for seniors like myself to mentor freshmen at our school and not just tell them about high school, but connect with them on a deeper level, become their friend, and make them feel as if they have someone older to talk to about what's going on in their lives or anything that's generally going on. You and your partner(s) get two groups, one for the first semester and a whole new group for the second semester. The end goal is to mentor them enough to want to keep coming back to our club, and by the time they get to their senior year, if they're still at Drew, hopefully, they'd be impacted enough to the point where they want to be peer leaders themselves and mentor the freshman class during their senior year.
In this video, my partner that I was paired with is giving props to our mentees for all completing the challenge we gave them. The activity of the day was the Cookie Crawl challenge and what you do is place a cookie on your forehead and guide the cookie all the way down to your mouth all while trying to not have it fall to the ground.
Due to having a all boys group this semester, my partner and I decided to take advantage of it and partner with another club, specifically the strength and calisthenics club, and we put the work in. Now the group wants to go work out with the club occasionally, and we all have fun while working out. I definitely believe going to the weight room made us all closer than we were before.
Updated picture on the Cookie Crawl. We awarded them with Caprisuns after they were able to get the cookie from their forehead to their mouth successfully.
