This is the game controller project where I will design and make a working game controller.
By the end of this project, I plan to have a fully functional game controller
My game controller must be designed by me, have at least four buttons, and must incorporate color, unity, or pattern into my design.
I got some inspiration from from this controller not really through the design, but how it uses one hand. I made my design one handed, so you can have another hand to do stuff with.
These were just four sketches that I did to get some ideas on what I might want to do. I experimented with some one-handed designs because I think that would make my project unique.
This is the design that I settled on. It is not only one-handed, but it also rests on the table instead of held in your hand. That makes it very unique. It also resembles the arrow and WASD keys on a keyboard because I know that has worked well for people for a long time.
This is the final drawing. It isn't too different from my first draft. The only noticeable difference is the added bottom at the bottom left. It will act as a space bar, with the others which are arrow keys.
Prototyping
So this is the prototype, it was quite simple to build and doesn't look that bad. As shown it rests on the table instead of in your hand. However, I'm struggling to find a way to make the electronics fit inside.
This is my final draft prototype. you can now press the buttons, and it includes the space bar and hatch at the top. It also has a place for the Arduino's power cable to go out, but I still having trouble imagining it get the electronics inside.
Here is the video of the controller working. As you could see the electronics never got into the model. However, everything works and i could use it as a controller still.
