This project was to create a short story of our choice. My story was about a group of people stranded on a deserted island. They were all on a plane headed for the Bermuda Triangle, but the outside conditions made them crash. While they were on the island, something drastic happens. A small group of people decide to leave the camp because the "leader" is becoming too controlling, and they wanted to escape that.
I chose to do this story because it was mainly based off of the books; Hatchet, and Lord of the Flies. Both stories were set in an unknown territory, and the characters had to survive on their own. My story was only a few pages long, so some scenes are a little rushed. I would've spent more time in the background of the characters instead of rushing the transitions.
Purple Hibiscus about how a girl named Kambili, and her brother Jaja break away from their father's harsh ways. Their father's view of life is different than most. If you don't live up to what he expects of you, consequences await. But, their aunt, Aunty Ifeoma shows them a life of hard work, happiness, and prosperity. As they begin to see how different life is with their father and their aunt, Kambili and Jaja then make a decision.
I learned many about different themes and life lessons through this book. In the story, the theme, families who are united by love are closer than families united by fear is represented in Aunty Ifeoma's unconditional love for her children. Her version of discipline is advice on how you can improve yourself. Love is shown by Kambili and Jaja's father, but he also punishes them for being who they are.
