Our class was separated into the western and eastern hemispheres so that we could participate in the Columbian Exchange. I was in the eastern hemisphere so I was a part of the Old World, which included Europe and parts of Africa. We all collectively brought in items that originated in our particular hemispheres to be exchanged. The items included bananas, citrus fruits, grapes, wheat, beef, mango from the eastern hemisphere; peppers, corn, cacao, peanuts, tomatoes, potatoes from the western hemisphere, to name a few. We took tomatoes, corn, and cacao to make spaghetti and a fruit plate with chocolate for dipping. When people from the western hemisphere took some of the items that originated from the eastern hemisphere, they also received diseases that we were immune to.
