We were provided with a mock crime scene and were tasked with figuring out who killed the victim, Gavin Brooks. Our first task was identifying and listing the evidence found at the scene (footprints, the weapon, clothing left at the scene, etc.). In addition, we were given a list of 6 suspects that could have killed Mr. Brooks. The suspects all had different physical characteristics, job professions, and living conditions that either connected them or cleared them of the crime. I used specific evidence found at the crime scene to narrow down the suspect list: size 5 footprint, location of housing, affiliation with Drew Charter School's cheerleading team, and dark-colored hair. As a result, I was able to correctly accuse Elaine Orker as the killer.
The Atlanta Child Murders were a series of murders where at least 30 children and adults were killed. The prime and only plausible suspect was a man named Wayne Williams. Police were able to connect the murders to Williams through trace evidence (hair and fibers) and through firsthand account of suspicious behavior. Throughout this project, we were tasked with either agreeing with the courts early decision to convict Wayne Williams or prove that he was instead innocent. I believed that Williams was guilty so I based the evidence used in the court case and outside it to prove my belief.
