I used 4 wooden sticks and twisted yarn in different directions to create this piece. The color scheme that I chose was monochromatic blue. I had to tie 2 sticks together with a string of yarn, and then create the patterns. You wrap the string of yarn around the stick twice before moving on to the next stick. Once you have a good amount wrapped(picture 2), then you can add the next 2 sticks.
For this project, I researched the meaning behind the ojo de dios, or the "eye of God". The original 4 points represent the 4 elements; air, earth, water, and fire. It is also a symbol of power and understanding, has become a representation of God, and prayer for those to watch over them. While wrapping the yarn I purposefully made it so that the points are alternating so that it looks like a flower. I chose to do monochromatic blue because I like the variety of shades of blue.
The point of this project was to erase the lines outlining the sketch, and see if you could tell what the image was. I first drew a hand, and drew lines that represented the shape and flow of the hand. I then outlined the lines that went across the hand, before erasing the first outline of the hand. The 3rd image was used as a reference for the last image because the Sharpie that I used was too thick, and I was going to use thinner markers instead.
I wanted to depict a calming feeling with a hand reaching out. I want the drawing to be somewhat interactive with the audience so that it’s not just laying on the paper. If someone was asking for help, you would be inclined to help them. The same goes for the drawing. If you saw a hand that seemed to be reaching out towards you, you would also go in that direction. If I were to change anything in this project, I would change the direction of some of the lines on the fingers near the nail.
For my city project, I decided to do the city of Bangkok, Thailand. The buildings that I drew were; The Centara Grand and Bagkok Convention Centre, Sinn Sathorn Tower, Central Embassy Shopping Mall, Robot Building(Bank of Asia), Baiyoke Tower II, Elephant Tower, and Interchange 21. Everything in this piece is in 2 point perspective, so the buildings become smaller the farther away that they are. I decided to do these buildings because I thought that I could try and challenge myself with more detailed buildings.
This is my art tessellation of the Pokémon Chimcham and Weepinbell. The pokemon were created from the same shape, but they were designed differently. While I was cutting out the shape of the pokemon, I had to rotate and flip the shape to see if I was able to make anything out of it. After many, many, attempts, and with the assistance of one of my friends, I realized what the shape could turn into. I colored and repeated the design until it covered the entire page, and this is the end result.
This project is about making a analogous shadow box. The shadow box consists of scenes from Pocahontas combined into one. The first panel represents Pocahontas standing on a cliff, looking into the distance. The remaining panels consists of the trees present in the movie, and the tree in the background is the willow tree that Pocahontas talked to. I decided to make this because Pocahontas is one of my favorite Disney movies and I wanted to show my interest for it in a piece of art. Specifically, I like the scene where she is looking off into the distance while the leaves in the wind blows. I wanted to showcase that somehow in this project, along with the tree that helped her along her journey. The different color panels are analogous because they include hues that are next to each other on the color wheel. Unlike analogous, a monochromatic color scheme only uses one hue with different shades and tints.
This is a sugar bowl inspired by the work of Dale Chihuly. It was made by boiling sugar and corn syrup together. Then it was poured over a balloon that was filled with water and hardened to create this piece.
This project was about the deconstruction of shapes. The shapes were drawn as if they were either sliced or as if another shape was inserted inside. I drew a triangular prism, a pyramid, a spiral in the shape of a sphere, and cubes. In addition to deconstructing, I shaded the shapes and parts that represented holes. The transition of tones from light to dark shows the way that light enters the space.
I made a self portrait using different values from a photograph. I took a picture and that picture was put into Photoshop where you could see the different values more clearly. I used that edited picture to make this piece.
I first drew grid lines on the photo and grid lines on my final piece of paper. This was so that I could accurately draw my face on the final as it correlated with the picture. Once I drew my face and shoulders, I outlined the valued areas and numbered them from lightest to darkest and began painting. For my color scheme, I used warm colors that went from yellow(with white) as the lightest to red(with black) as the darkest. This is the final product.
