ChemVas Art
Thursday February 6
Today in this experiment we were to make lampblack ink. This experiment is a combustion reaction. The way we did this involved a small candle, a spoon, a tile, a scraper, and a brush. First, we lit the candles and put our spoons over the candle for a while. After the spoons looked like they had enough, we then used a paper scraper thing to scrape off the powder. And this is where me and my group messed up because we didn't get enough powder to paint with. Even though this was a failure for my group and I, it was still a fun experience. I think that the experiment did not work well for me and my group because wax kept getting on the spoon which made it harder to get powder.

For this assignment we were to choose either dye or ink and paint on a paper. I chose to paint with the ink. We watched a video right before the lesson and in the video, it showed someone painting a leafy forest in ink. So, after watching I had the idea to paint a nature like art piece. I really enjoyed this assignment because of the way my art came out and it was a fun experience.

For this assignment we made paper using a blender and construction paper. First, we added some water into the blender. Second, we ripped up some paper and added it to the blender full of water. Next, we blended the paper until it was all shredded and liquid. Then poured it into the plastic tray. We then put a rectangular tool into the tray and then pulled it out once it was covered. Then popped the paper onto a rag and dabbed it to dry it. After it was dry we put the paper onto a sheet, and it was done. Chemistry relates to paper making because of the breaking down, combining, and changing. I think handmade paper could be an art form through boiling plant fibers, beating them into a pulp, and forming each sheet by hand.

For this assignment we had to make a dye for a fabric using either blueberries or cabbage. My group Ayman El-Amin, Derek Thompson, and I chose to use blueberries. We first had to boil and melt the blueberries in a pot. Second, we put some baking soda in the pot. Then we put the fabric on a stick tool and dunked it in the pot. After a bit we took the fabric out of the pot and decided to add some vinegar to the fabric which made it pink and green.
Weaving Bonds
Tuesday January 7
For this assignment we had to weave with paper. My work combines weaving with bonding by weaving the paper together. Combining basic weaving techniques to create an ionic bond. Ionic bonding is where one atom transfers electrons to another, creating oppositely charged ions that attract each other.
