One act play: Don't Fear the Reaper
For this project we performed a one act play in a competition. To start this project Ms. west gave my class several plays to choose from. We all agreed that "Don't Fear the Reaper" was the best. We liked the plot, and we thought that the scenery worked best for the one act play competition. "Don't Fear the Reaper" is a play that explores the concept of death and the Grim Reaper, often focusing on the idea that one shouldn't fear death and that even the Reaper can be a compassionate figure, sometimes encountering individuals facing their mortality in unexpected ways, prompting them to reflect on their life choices and find peace with their impending end; it draws inspiration from the famous Blue Oyster Cult song of the same name which carries a similar theme. The character that I played was Steve. Steve is a lazy young man who is a gamer and television connoisseur. I was in a good number of scenes. My favorite scene was the fating game scene because it had me do a lot of interesting movement and it was fun interacting with other actors. I also loved the sleeping bag full of chips. Overall, I think we all did an amazing job with the play, and I can't wait to do another.
Black History Month Performance "Welcome to Atlanta."
In this project we performed a play for black history month called "Welcome to Atlanta." My theater teachers Ms. West and Mr. Lamont actually wrote this play, and I thought that was really cool. At the start of this project, I wasn't sure how I felt about it because I didn't know if I'd get a big or small role. After lots of talking and script studying, we were eventually given our roles. I was given two roles, and those roles were Dean Carter and Tom Cousins. I was in three scenes, one being the club/bar scene and the other being the Tom Cousins and Eva Davis scene. My favorite scene that I was in is definitely my Tom Cousins scene. I really like this scene because it was fun going back and forth with Eva Davis (Nadiyah Lewis.) In this scene Tom Cousins is trying to convince Eva Davis to help him fix up East Lake and make it look beautiful again. I am very happy with how I performed, and I can't wait for next year's musical.
