Training and Orientation Programme
22nd May 2023 - 23rd June 2023
"Training and orientation are the stepping stones to success, providing new employees with the knowledge and tools to flourish in their roles and contribute effectively to the organization's growth."
The teacher orientation program organized by DPS Lava for the session 2023-24 commenced on May 22nd with the purpose of providing new teachers with a strong foundation for their careers at the school. The program aimed to create a positive first impression and establish the basis for everything that follows.
The programme began with the Lighting of the Lamp, symbolizing the beginning of a new journey. The new teachers were introduced to the rest of the staff, fostering a sense of belonging and community within the school.
Ms Anupama Sagdeo, the Principal of DPS Lava, took the lead in initiating the orientation, explaining the school's Vision, Mission, and Ethos and providing new teachers with a comprehensive understanding of the school's values and objectives. The curriculum and its distinctive features were highlighted, emphasizing how DPS Lava stands apart in terms of its approach to education. The teachers were also given an overview of the upcoming year, setting their expectations and goals for the academic session.
By setting the tone for the month-long training and orientation program, Day 1 provided a solid foundation for the new teachers at DPS Lava. It established a sense of purpose, introduced them to the school's values and expectations, and equipped them with important strategies and skills necessary for their teaching journey ahead.
Various sessions were conducted to equip the teachers with essential skills and knowledge. Sessions on Effective Classroom Management Strategies, provided valuable insights and techniques to create a conducive learning environment. Another session centered around the Presentation and Preparation of Bulletin Boards, which play a crucial role in displaying information and engaging students visually. Sessions on Effective Communication, Art Integration, IT Integration, Assessments and Evaluation, Lesson Planning and Effective Communication, were conducted.
Each day concluded with a reflective session, where teachers had the opportunity to share their key learnings and takeaways from the orientation program. This process of closing the loop ensured that teachers internalized the information and could apply it effectively in their teaching practices.
At DPS LAVA values are not taught by the teachers....they are caught by the students and the School Cinema Curriculum is integral to the process. School Cinema is a film-based learning programme that supports Social Emotional Learning, Life Skills, and Mental Well Being and promotes Social Skills.
Ms Debjani Brahmachari, a trainer from LXL Innovation conducted an online training session for the teachers on Tuesday the 13th of June 2023. Ms Debjani shared the essence of film-based pedagogy and took the teachers through the process of taking the programme in their classrooms.
A workshop organized on June 14, 2023, titled 'Demystifying Neurodevelopmental Disorders and Learning Disorders,' demonstrates a proactive approach by the school in equipping teachers with the knowledge and strategies to support its students.
The guest speaker for the workshop, Dr Dinesh R Saroj, a Neuro-Developmental Pediatrician and founder/director of the Prouds Child Development Centre, Nagpur, provided valuable insights and guidance to the attending teachers.
Dr Saroj's discussion on red flags was particularly important as it helps teachers identify potential signs of neurodevelopmental disorders and learning disorders in their students. Early identification and intervention are crucial in ensuring that appropriate support is provided to children who may require it. By being alert to these red flags, teachers can play a vital role in facilitating early intervention processes and promoting positive outcomes for their students.
The workshop reflects DPS Lava's commitment to holistic education and inclusivity. By equipping teachers with knowledge, awareness, and practical strategies, the school enables them to better understand and support students with diverse learning needs.
Raz Plus Training for Teachers
A reading instructor who knows how to teach and nurture reading and writing skills is crucial for young students.
That’s why DPS Lava trains early-grade teachers on the subject of an online reading program.
DPS in association with Raz-Plus provides an array of levelled resources in printable, projectable, and digital formats for engaging PreK - 5 reading instruction. Through a blend of teacher-led instruction, independent practice, formative assessment, and data-driven reporting, Raz-Plus strengthens the connection between what is being taught and what students practice on their own.
Read and grow is the mantra at DPS Lava and this programme takes the children on the path of success.
