Facility Management Divisions

Community Use

The Denver Public Schools Office of Community Use schedules any and all inner district programs as well as all of the use by external customers and district partners. This department consists of a manager, two full time schedulers and two part time schedulers. The reliability and success of this process is highly reliant upon the collaboration of the department and the staff of each facility.

Custodial Operations

The DPS Custodial Operations department is structured not only to provide daily cleaning and upkeep, but also minor maintenance and grounds services which enhance efficiencies throughout Facility Management. Its managers and custodians are much more than your typical janitorial staff. Employees are prepared to handle these enhanced responsibilities through an extensive training and professional development program consisting of emergency preparedness, management and leadership, electrical, plumbing HVAC, boilers, grounds, personal computing, and housekeeping.

Facility Maintenance Division

The Facility Maintenance division maintains all existing structures and building systems throughout the district as nearly and as long as possible in their original condition while compensating for normal wear and tear. Facility Maintenance is comprised of eight shops that collaborate to support the mission statement of DPS, “every child succeeds.”

First Call Center

The First Call Center provides a central location for questions and point of contact for Facility Management. The First Call Center can assist with questions about work in the buildings, connecting with regulatory agencies (such as DFD), next steps in departmental processes and school oriented projects including building modifications, murals and volunteer projects.

Work requests are dispatched from Operations to DPS Shops or Planning Design and Construction through the First Call Center. We make sure all requests entered are complete and are routed to the correct department for quick and efficient service.

The First Call Center also oversees and assists with building related emergency and insurance situations. First Call will coordinate response, communication and repairs in most situations.

Office of Professional Development

The Office of Professional Development works to assess, design and implement instructional curricula and resources to support the Facilities Management Department. The Office of Professional Development's mission is to effectively improve employee performance and grow leadership skills for the entire Facilities department; including Operations and Maintenance.

Safety Department

The Safety Department develops safety and health policies and procedures and requires a commitment of compliance, as a condition of employment within Facility Management.
