The number of Magdalene entries to Campbelltown Arts Centre's annual Fishers Ghost Art Award this year has exploded to 280 artworks!
Given Magdalene Impressions will not be taking place in 2021 the Visual Arts Department has sought alternative opportunities to exhibit student works to the Magdalene community and beyond!
The Fishers Ghost Art Award (click here!) opens at Campbelltown Arts Centre from Saturday 30th October to Friday the 10th December. Winners of awards will be announced on Friday the 5th of November. This post will be updated accordingly. We encourage you to visit Campbelltown Art Gallery to see student's works in the flesh!
Congratulations to our three Visual Arts students who received a Secondary Students Art Award in this year's Fisher's Ghost Art Competition! For their efforts they receive an award and a $250 voucher from the Gallery.
Magdalene Catholic College had one Year 9 and two Year 11 students formally acknowledged for their talents last Friday night, 5/11/21 via the Campbelltown Arts Centre’s online live streaming of the official opening of the Fishes Ghost Art Competition. The following students were chosen to receive three of the four presented Secondary Art awards;
Harrison Assad for his work ‘Portrait of Little Yachty’ a Mixed Media Portrait.
Benjamin Ballantyne for his work ‘Animal Skull’ White Chalk Pastel on Black Paper and
Charlotte Berkley for her Photographic work titled ‘Stacked Stones’
Due to covid restrictions the gallery was unable to hold its usual larger opening at the Arts Centre, but instead streamed this online event via social media. All works are now on display at the Art Centre or via their Virtual Gallery, https://c-a-c.com.au/fgaa-2021/ and we highly encourage you to plan a visit.
The Fisher's Ghost Art exhibition will run until Friday 10 December 2021. Unfortunatly or the first time in 21 years, our annual exhibition, Magdalene Impressions, due to Covid, will not take place.
With over 280 student works from Magdalene on show, the Fishes Ghost Exhibition has enabled the creativity, ideas and artmaking skill of Magdalene students to be viewed by the wider community. We strongly encourage you to take the time to visit the gallery to experience the showcase of work on display.
Well done Harry, Ben and Charlotte on your efforts and we hope you enjoy all the creative endeavors of our very talented students!
What better subject matter other than 'HOME' to focus on during Covid? Wollongong Art Gallery's photographic competition titled 'HOME' has provided Magdalene Stage 5 Photography and Visual Arts students with an opportunity to explore this theme from a variety of perspectives and share their photographic compositions to a broad audience.

Not even Covid can hold Magdalene students back!!
This year Magdalene Catholic College won the School Award for the most submitted entries in the Staedtler Artist of the Year Competition. This was a massive 73 entries!
For their efforts our students won a $1000 RRP prize pack full of art materials and stationery supplies.
We would LOVE to show you the broad range of student works submitted from Magdalene but unfortunately due to copyright reasons the voting page with all the works from different schools has been taken down. However on the Staedtler page, if you click on the link to the left, you can see the webpage of winners where the Magdalene Crest as the school winner is included!
To celebrate NSW Youth Week, Camden Council created a great opportunity in the '2021 Youth Public Art Participation Program' for young people to work with professional and emerging artists to create public artworks. This collaboration, resulted in a range of murals and art works throughout the Camden area. This included the work of two of our talented art students - Elana Richardson (Year 11) and Jack Wilson (Year 7). Two of Elana’s exquisite paintings and drawings and Jack’s stunning mixed media self portrait were chosen for display. These beautiful works were installed as banners along the main street of Camden during July and August 2021. We commend these students for taking up this art making opportunity.
Year 11 Artist: Elana Richardson
Year 7 Artist: Jack Wilson
The Magdalene Visual Arts Department is always seeking out opportunities to engage students with their artmaking. This has been none so challenging as during remote learning! With this in mind we have taken up an exciting artmaking opportunity offered by Campbelltown Arts Centre for a range of live online artmaking and photography workshops with artist and CAC Art Educator, Anney Bounpraseuth. During this workshop Anney shared her own art making practice to guide students in using a range of materials and techniques. Please see the some screen shots below of the classes in action.
